ROGER BEZOMBES
Roger Bezombes was a French painter and sculptor who was born in 1913. He studied in Paris, at the École des Beaux-Arts, and was much influenced by his friendship with Maurice Denis. He worked principally as a painter, adopting the saturated colors of Henri Matisse in landscapes and figure studies often based on observation of “exotic” cultures, notably Mediterranean and North African. Bezombes died in 1994, his work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized lots selling up to $117,704 USD.

All works in this series were first exhibited at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 1981, La Vie Autour du Monde premiered after almost a decade of controversy. Since the creation of Air France in 1933, never before had an artistic campaign suggested the pleasure and the art of flying rather than a destination.
